Call for Expression of Interest: Objects as Elders and Teachers Program

Closes October 31st, 2018

What happens when we look at material in museum collections as teachers? What can we learn from close looking and reconnecting objects with community artists and elders?

Coming up, we have an exciting opportunity for museums to host a young museum professional who will assist in research and relationship-building activities.
A few selected museums will have the opportunity to work with a facilitator on building relationships with Indigenous people through a dialogue about the museum’s collection.

Participating museums need:

• Time and willingness to meet with facilitators and community members on several occasions over the coming winter/spring
• Willingness to provide extended viewing and “visiting” with artifacts
• An interest in cultivating respectful relationships
• Openness to question assumptions and understandings of artifacts, community, and history

Deadline to express interest: October 31st, 2018
