Collections Care Specialist – WDM Corporate Office

The Western Development Museum – Corporate Office in Saskatoon is seeking a Collections Care Specialist, responsible for the care and stewardship of the WDM’s Collections through a program of preventative and interventive conservation activities.

The Collections Care Specialist will be responsible for: • Developing and implementing short and long-term conservation strategies, plans and procedures. • Developing and delivering ongoing training and communication to Museum staff on artifact care and handling, including preventive conservation best practices. • Identifying and communicating hazards in the Collection. • Monitoring the condition of the WDM Collections in exhibit and storage locations across all five WDMs. • Planning, performing and documenting conservation treatments for artifacts as approved by the Collections Manager. • Preparing new acquisitions and artifacts for exhibit and storage (cleaning, housing, etc.). • Collaborating with exhibit and other staff to identify appropriate materials and methods for artifact transportation, mounting and exhibit. • Overseeing and directing volunteers, interns and other staff working in the conservation lab and artifact workspaces
