The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Historical Collections Unit is a “Depot” Division RCMP Unit. The Historical Collections Unit is responsible for the acquisition, preservation, research, presentation and interpretation of the heritage collections held by the RCMP in trust for the Crown and the people of Canada. The collections include a large artifact collection dating back to the formation of the Mounted Police in 1873, works of art, archives, outreach collection and a small research library. Currently, the collection is made up of roughly 40,000 historic artifacts and archival items, a portion of which are on display in the RCMP Heritage Centre.
