Antique Machinery/Vehicles Volunteer!

Posted by Em Ironstar on August 27th, 2019

Mr. Edward Beday of Qu’Appelle, SK is volunteering his services as an Antique Machinery/Vehicles Mechanic!

He is a retired heavy-duty mechanic, who wants to volunteer his time and expertise to help museums repair/restore antique machinery/vehicles. He has with some unique skills because of his work history. In the 1990s, while owning his own shop in Estevan, he was awarded a Detroit Diesel franchise and received factory training on the famous 2 stroke engines. In the 2000s, he worked for Caterpillar dealers, in their fuel rooms, reconditioning all manner of Caterpillar mechanical fuel system components and turbochargers.

In late June of 2019, he had a chance to repair an antique Caterpillar industrial diesel engine fitted to an antique GE railroad locomotive for the Southern Prairie Railroad at Ogema, SK. This was a case of using skills and theory that isn’t even being taught in trade schools anymore. The operators of the railroad were thrilled to get the old engine running properly again.

He wondering if there are any other similar opportunities in other provincial museums. In his dreams, He envision himself travelling to museums and living in my motor home while doing repair work.

If you are interested in having Mr. Beday come and work with your antique Machinery/ Vehicles, please e-mail him at ebeday2003@msn.com.
