The Canadian Conservation Institute has released two new advisory notes: How to Test for Gold and Tin. This is a new Note in the “Spot Tests in Conservation” series. This Note describes the procedure and materials required to detect gold or tin using spot tests, one of the simplest analytical techniques for identifying metals. Also, be sure to check out CCI Note 9/13 Preventing and Treating the Dezincification of Brass. This is a new Note in the “Metals” series. The Note describes what dezincification is and where it can be encountered in conservation. It also describes how to prevent and treat it and provides an example of mild dezincification.
