Digital Collections Research Assistant in Numismatics – Museum of Antiquities, University of Saskatchewan

The Museum of Antiquities is looking for a Digital Collections Research Assistant in Numismatics to be employed from May 1 – August 29, 2025. The student will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The student is required to have a significant interest in working with ancient artifacts; therefore, undergraduate training in the humanities, in particular ancient and pre-modern history and art history, as well as archaeology is an asset. The student should wish to acquire first hand experience in a museum setting and be considering pursuing a career in history, archaeology, or museum studies-related fields. English is the primary language in which all duties will be performed, although reading knowledge of Latin and French would be an asset. The successful candidate’s primary task will be gathering and entering Museum of Antiquities’ coin collection data into its collections database. The student will receive training and orientation in researching ancient coins and related documentation, as well as in museum collection database software in order to perform various collections-related tasks. After initial training and experience with the Museum’s coin collection, the student will then use these skills to research and develop an online coin exhibit using a digital exhibition platform. The student will have the opportunity to work with academics, and museum and archive professionals related to this project in making the collection information and materials accessible to a wider audience via the World Wide Web. The student will obtain employable experience and skills related to researching, cataloguing and documenting a substantial museum collection. The student will also gain valuable experience in the day-to-day operations of a museum.

Preference will be given to a student with strong computer skills in standard office software such as Microsoft Office. The student should also have experience and interest in learning database software and other digital applications in a museum setting. In addition, the student should be a competent researcher and have above average typing and writing skills.
