4-Month Term Full-Time Heritage Interpreter at the National Doukhobor Heritage Village in Verigin, Sask. The National Doukhobor Heritage Village (NDHV) is a National and Provincial Historical Site designated by Parks Canada and the Province of Saskatchewan. The NDHV consists of 13 permanent structures set up like an early 20th-century Doukhobor village and is home to several thousand artifacts and hundreds of archival documents. Our season runs from May 15 to September 15, 7 days a week, from 10 AM to 6 PM. T
he Heritage Interpreters (3) at the National Doukhobor Heritage Village in Veregin, Saskatchewan, plays a vital role in bringing the history, culture, and traditions of the Doukhobor community to life, both in-person and digitally. The ideal candidate for the Heritage Interpreter position would have enthusiasm for history and culture, strong communication and problem-solving skills, and interest in working in a cultural heritage/museum environment. Candidates must be current students and must be returning to full-time studies in the fall.
Reporting to the Leadership Team, the Heritage Interpreter will assist in the following: • Welcoming guests to the site, leading guided tours of the historic buildings and exhibits, and sharing engaging stories that highlight the Doukhobor values of peace, communal living, and agricultural innovation. • Interpret artifacts, explain traditional practices such as bread baking, weaving, gardening, etc., and explain the significance of these activities in the Doukhobor way of life in Canada. • Assisting in special events, cultural programs, and educational activities designed for school/youth groups and tourists, ensuring all visitors gain a meaningful understanding of the NDHV and Doukhobor history, adapting presentations to suit the needs and interests of diverse audiences. • Assisting with daily site operations such as setting up new museum exhibits, maintaining cleanliness in public areas, collaborating on social media posts, and supporting staff in preserving the authenticity of the NDHV. • Cataloguing, documenting, and safely handling museum artifacts, ensuring all items are properly stored, displayed, and maintained according to the Museums Association of Saskatchewan (MAS) Standards and Guidelines. • Preparing and installing exhibits, updating interpretive materials, and arranging displays to enhance visitor engagement and understanding of Doukhobor heritage in Saskatchewan and Canada. • Applying digital skills to build and maintain an online database of artifacts, including digitizing photographic and archival documents. • Overseeing front office duties, including sales, registration, managing inventory, and administrative duties as required. • Other duties as identified.
This full-time 4-month position, located in Veregin, commences May 1, 2026, and will be compensated at $17.00 per hour. The employee’s normal hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a 37.5 hour work week. Flex-time hours may be considered from time to time and additional hours of work may be required as deemed by the Leadership Team.
