The Ukrainian Museum of Canada, founded in 1936 by the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada, is North America’s oldest Ukrainian museum. Located in Saskatoon, with branches in Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver, it houses North America’s largest collection of Ukrainian textiles and 12 paintings by William Kurelek. The museum features three galleries, a research library, a community space, and a gift store, offering various exhibitions, programs, and workshops.
The collection began nearly a century ago with artifacts from the community, including weaving, costumes, pysanky, wood carvings, embroidery, beadwork, and handicrafts. It has grown to over 11,000 artifacts and artworks, plus a large archive of photographs, films, and music. The research library holds nearly 20,000 publications, including rare books and journals. The museum collaborates with scholars, artists, and organizations from Ukraine and around the world to preserve and celebrate Ukrainian culture.
Visitors worldwide are warmly invited to explore the diverse, rich, and influential culture, history, and heritage of Ukrainian people in Canada, Ukraine, and the global diaspora. The museum’s dynamic offerings provide a multifaceted perspective on Ukrainian culture for scholars, researchers, and enthusiasts from around the world. The Ukrainian Museum of Canada stands as a proud guardian of one of the most distinguished Ukrainian collections in North America.
