This former North West Mounted Police/Royal Canadian Mounted Police post (circa 1878-83) was later used (1942-68) to breed horses for the force and the Musical Ride. Take a guided tour of the fort’s buildings, the Fort Walsh townsite, the site of the Cypress Hills Massacre, and two cemeteries. Visitors can also explore the ridge along Battle Creek on self-guided trails and view exhibits in the Visitor Reception Centre. The Fort also offers guided tours of the fort, but the townsite, cemeteries, and massacre site are self-guided. While there is no longer a concession, visitors are able to purchase sandwiches, pepperoni sticks, ice cream treats, and pop/water.
