The Royal Canadian Legion was founded by Veterans and for Veterans. We advocate for the care and benefits for all who served Canada, regardless of when or where they served.
History:
Branch 56 was originally formed in 1915 as a branch of the Army and Navy Veterans Association, which in 1917 became part of the newly created Great War Veterans Association. In 1926 the Great War Veterans Association and several other veterans organizations merged and became the Canadian Legion (part of the British Empire Service League). In 1960 the Canadian Legion was granted the title of “Royal” by her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II thus becoming the Royal Canadian Legion. The Branch 56 Museum was established in 2023 by the branch as a way to further our objectives of promoting remembrance, helping veterans, telling the stories of our veterans, and educating the public and our youth about our veterans.
